Typo3 Developer: DAM Quickstart
What is DAM?
Digital assets include image files, text files, audio files, etc. Leverage your digital assets by documenting the location of each asset, what categories they belong to, and other important information. Use the DAM search functionality to find your digital media.
In Typo3 DAM, or digital asset management, is done through the following set of extensions:
- dam
- dam_catedit
- dam_file
- dam_index
Configuring the DAM extensions
You don’t have to be a Typo3 developer to install the DAM extensions. However, you may find it difficult to get everything working without some trial and error. This tutorial will guide you through the process.
Begin by creating categories with the same name as the folder where your media is stored. When the names are the same, you can take advantage of the indexing extension's ability to automatically categorize media based on similarities in the names of directories and categories.

Then select the Indexing module to start the indexing process.
Your files must be indexed first so the Media modules can reference them, and do things like display thumbnails of images in a directory, etc.
Step through the Indexing wizard to select files you want indexed. Typo3 displays a status bar showing the progress of the indexing operation. If you receive the following security alert:
HTTP MS IE Malf.IFRAME/EMBED BO
you may have to adjust your anti-virus software's Intrusion Detection settings.
